Instinct vs the alternatives

The short version
Instinct's bet is agency: it finishes the errand, not just the answer. The closest rivals come from much bigger companies (Meta's Muse, OpenAI's Dots) or from the do-it-yourself world (OpenClaw). Here is what separates them, based on hands-on reviews and each product's own material.
Meta Muse
Meta's assistant, launched September 2026. Free, with a cute mascot and its own app (over 900,000 App Store downloads in launch weeks, per third-party estimates cited by Wired). The Verge found Instinct held its own against Muse in testing; Muse has no group-chat agent yet, and launched with a serious security vulnerability reported by Ars Technica.
OpenAI Dots
Personal agents inside ChatGPT, launched late September 2026, also usable in shared "Spaces". Strong if you already live in ChatGPT; a different shape from Instinct's plain text thread.
OpenClaw
The open-source, self-hosted agent for technical operators: your own server, your own API keys, your own bridging to WhatsApp. More control, real setup work. Instinct is routinely described as "OpenClaw for normal people" - the same agency, none of the configuration.
The smaller field
- Carly - work-focused assistant over text/email/web; connects Gmail, Outlook, calendars; agents from $35/month.
- Folk - iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram; free tier, Pro at $8.33/month.
- Martin - SMS, phone, WhatsApp, email, Slack; from $21/month.
- Rene - iMessage, Telegram, WhatsApp.
Independent teardowns also track Pine and Town on the same axes as Instinct. Prices and features as reported in October 2026 - check each product before deciding.
